What I teach:

I teach Art Education. I am licensed to teach k-12 and have a Master of Fine Arts degree which allows me to teach higher art education. I teach a drawing class at Carthage College in the evenings. 
What does my class entail:

My classes entail a variety of art processes that require hand- eye-brain coordination. Art and design processes include: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography and digital art. Also, I encourage cross curricular instruction - connecting art to math, literature, science, psychology, cultural studies, and everyday life. 

For Incoming Parents About my class or classes:

I encourage parents to join their student's google classroom and infinite campus. In google classroom, They will have access to class content and their student's progress in the class. My line of communication is always open.

Why did I choose my career:

Teaching is a calling. I knew in the 3rd grade that I wanted to be an artist. My fifth grade teacher and maternal grandmother were huge advocates. It wasn't until high school and my high school art teacher, MS. G, that I knew I wanted to be an art teacher. MS. G was my role model. Both my grandmothers wanted to be teachers, but couldn't. They inspired me. 

What I get out of teaching my certain subject:

I am a professional artist. I make and exhibit my art. I am very passionate about my content and love sharing art with my students and community. 

My favorite thing about teaching:

My favorite thing about teaching is building relationships with students and encouraging them to find their voice.

What I do outside of school:

YOGA! I am obsessed with yoga. It changed my life. I also love walking my dogs, traveling, and gardening.
